What is
AnglingSites.com?
This site is a search engine, designed to give a 'homely' feel to anglers
surfing the internet. Although its primary focus is angling, visitors can
search for anything they like. How does it
work?
When a visitor types in a search word, or phrase, the search engine
interrogates various sources and displays the results, in this order:
- Its own list of registered keywords
- The
www.Go-Fishing.co.uk database
- Various other large search engines, including the likes of MSN.
Does It Cost To List My Site?
Only if you want it to. You can register keywords for free. Remember,
keywords are the first source of interrogation for the search engine, so a
keyword registered for free will put you ahead of the results from the other
sources.
How Do I Register Keywords?
Use the 'Webmaster Sign Up' to set up an account. You will then be able to
enter your admin page via the 'Webmaster Login' link. Not only is it free to
register, but we even credit you with £5.00 to use to register paid for
keywords! Once that £5.00 is used up, the system will not allow you to have
a negative account. i.e. Just set your keywords to a zero bid and your site
will continue to take precedence over sites that haven't registered
keywords.
Registering keywords is simple - just follow the link to 'Manage Listings'.
Register your keywords or phrases individually. i.e. if you own a tackle
shop and it contains Fox, Abu and Daiwa products, list these words
separately. If you list them all in one listing, matches will only occur if
a visitor types in exactly what you've entered. The key is to register
single words and phrases that you think a visiting angler may use.
Please remember - due to the time consuming nature of approving free keyword
listings, we can only approve ten per site per day.
What Benefits Are There If I Pay For Bids?
As explained above, the first place the search engine looks for results is
the keyword list. If the keyword it is looking for has bids on it, then
these will be displayed first, in the order of the highest bid. You only
pay if your link is then clicked on by the visitor. The facility to bid
on keywords is primarily aimed at commercial sites wanting to generate
targeted traffic, although anyone can pay for bids. Non-commercial sites may
find that they benefit more from adding our search box to their site
(below).
Why Should I Add Your Search Box To My Site?
The reason for this is twofold:
1. It is another facility to offer your site visitors. Every
webmaster knows that he or she can't be all things to all men, so having a
search facility on your site means that your visitors don't have to go
elsewhere to do their surfing.
2. You earn click credits for every search performed i.e. your
account is credited every time somebody uses the search box! At the time of
writing (March, 2003), the following rates apply. Please note, however, that
we reserve the right to amend these rates at any time:
A Search By A Visitor On Your Site = 1p credit
A Search By A Visitor That Results In Them Clicking On A 'Paid For' Link
= 25% of the click revenue
A Search By A Visitor Who Then Signs Up For A Webmasters Account =
£2.00
A Deposit Subsequently Made By That Webmaster = 5% of that deposit
Affiliate Earnings Made By Another Webmaster Introduced To Us By That
Webmaster (i.e. a 2 tier system) = 5% of their affiliate earnings
How Do I Add A Search Box To My Site?
Log in to the Webmasters area and follow the link to 'Affiliates'. The HTML
code is supplied for you and you can insert this into the HTML of any page
that you wish to display the search box on. Once it's working, let your
visitors know that they are supporting your site by using the search box.
