WHAT
IS THE FISH WELFARE FUND? The
Fish Welfare Fund was established by SAA and ECHO to promote the following Aims
and Objectives; - 1.1
To promote and defend all the angling rights and interests of anglers.
- 1.2
To represent the joint membership of SAA and ECHO within the Fisheries and Angling
Conservation Trust Ltd (FACT), to Government, NGOs and other stakeholder bodies
and organisations, in particular with regard to environmental and political matters
of concern to angling.
- 1.3
To campaign on behalf of members for a cleaner, safer, healthier aquatic and marine
environment.
The
Fund will be administered by eight Trustees, four appointed from the membership
of each of the Specialist Anglers' Alliance and the English Carp Heritage Organisation. Why
the Fish Welfare Fund? The
Fund was started because increasingly government looks to angling organisations
to part fund regulation and research. Defra, and other government departments,
want to see the angling "industry" acting as a partner with others in
the world of angling and fisheries in the development of policy, regulation and
process. The existing angling
bodies do not have the resources for these important developments. FACT wants
to act as a partner in many agendas but lacks resource. The individual partners
in FACT have the same problem. A key part of our development is that we are committed
to working closely with all our angling partners to maximise impact, avoid duplication,
and promote unity within representation for angling. The
FWF is an opportunity for the angling and fisheries trades, in the widest sense,
to support the early stages of the development of FACT, invest in the future of
their businesses and to show government that the angling "industry"
stands alongside the angling representatives in their efforts to improve the performance
of our sport and our fisheries. The
FWF will seek match funding for all new money coming into the scheme, will seek
to encourage more youngsters to participate, by part funding existing and new
initiatives with youth groups, will seek to fund a PR campaign aimed at the non-angling
public to inform and encourage participation across age groups and gender, will
stand alongside other partners in funding key research in fish diseases and their
control. Who
can contribute to FWF? Any
member of the angling or fishery trade who believes that investment now will protect
the sport and their business in the future. Any
angler who wants to share with future generations the enjoyment they have had
from angling. Any friend
of fishing who wants to encourage participation, realises the importance to modern
man/woman of a day in the countryside enjoying a healthy non-invasive sport. How
can you contribute? By
filling out and signing a standing order (pdf)
for any amount, paid annually or monthly, and sending it to Ruth Lockwood at the
ECHO Office, 12/16 The Parade, Yateley, Hampshire GU46 7UN By
negotiating to use the FWF logo on new or existing product and contributing on
an ongoing basis part of the revenues from those products, contact Chris Burt
or Ruth Lockwood. By agreeing
to sponsor particular initiatives. These will change with time so ask what is
current and needs your investment.
