1.
This fish was reported in the Angling Times 17th Jan 1996. It would
have broken the current record comfortably. No photographs were taken and
apart from his pal Thomas had no other witnesses. It is such a huge fish
there has to be a certain amount of doubt over its true weight.
2. Reported in the Angling Times
11th Oct 1996. Steve is quoted thus: "I'm just not interested, the
whole record thing is just a joke". He goes on to say that he fished
the water since he had "caught two tench with their tails clean
off". There was no photograph and since this would trounce the current
record it is difficult to take seriously without a picture.
He then reported a 5.01 fish in the same month. No pictures despite the
fish being highly notable.
A further fish which would break the record at 5.11 was caught Nov 1996.
The only witness was the fishery owner. There are photographs but doubt was
expressed in the press to the size of the fish. His claim to the record
will be based on the use of a conversion scale which allows the calculation
of a fish's size using the diameter of the eye. It is likely that this fish
will be rejected by the record fish committee.
3. Members of furnace pond have
grave doudts about the capture of this fish.
